The finasteride is only recommended for the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia. The use of this medicine in women is still very controversial, because of the associated risks and questionable efficacy. Some recent studies report positive results, but their prescription in women remains not authorized in the European space.

The medication effects (desired or secondary side effects) occur only during its use. As such, if the drug usage is interrupted all the effects will recede including the anti-hair loss effect and the undesired ones.

Finasterida side effects:

  • Libido decreased (sexual desire)
  • Decreased sperm count
  • Decrease the volume of semen ejaculated
  • These effects occur in a small percentage of patients (1.8%) and it is suspected that there is some kind of emotional factor involved, given that, in scientific studies, once 1.3% of men taking placebo complained about the same.

How to use Finasteride?

The Finasteride is administered orally and, in general, patients start noticing its hair beneficial effects after 4 to 6 months of continuous treatment. Hair loss starts reducing followed by an increase in hair density. After one year of treatment, the patient reaches the maximum density and then the drug usage will maintain the results obtained.

We would like to highlight the importance of medical examination and prescription before taking finasteride. Only a physician can evaluate each case and define whether or not finasteride is an option for you.
