Causes of Hair Loss

There is not always a reason to be alarmed! A hair shedding between 50 to 100 hairs per day is normal. You can notice this hair loss during brushing, bathing, or even on the pillow that you use to sleep. This hair loss is due to the normal biological cycle of the hair. Those hairs are in the telogen phase (the resting phase of the hair follicle) that corresponds to aproximatley 10% of the total hair follicles.

Usually before the hair shedding, a new hair is in the anagen phase (growth phase), so it is beginning to grow.

Hair biological cycle

The daily hair loss is different for each person and it is related to the amount of hairs and the duration of the telogen phase. As an example, a person that has 100,000 hairs with a daily loss of 100 hairs and a telogen phase of approximately three years will regrow their hair every three years
