Alopecia

Alopecia is the medical term for partial or total hair loss, and exists many types of alopecia with differents causes.

Our team offers a range of hair treatments which can prevent premature hair loss, according to the type of alopecia and characteristics of each patient. We also perform hair transplants, the only permanent treatment method in advanced baldness cases.

The alopecia are divided into two groups: scarring and non-scarring.

SCARRING ALOPECIA

Scarring alopecia it's when there is permanent destruction of the hair follicles, which are replaced by scar tissue, with irreversible hair loss. This situation may arise after infection, traction, trauma or tumor of the scalp or in inflammatory diseases such as lupus erythematosus or scleroderma.

Scarring alopecia

NON-SCARRING ALOPECIA

This type of alopecia is the most common, produces no scar, and includes male and female androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata (autoimmune), the telegenic effluvium (derived from nutritional deficiencies or hormonal changes), trichotillomania (psycho-emotional disorder that leads one to hair pulling), among other less common causes.

non-scarring alopecia

Among all alopecia, androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of permanent hair loss in both men and women. The treatment can be done with the use of pills (medical treatment), with the hair transplantation (surgical treatment), or a combination of both. But the most important thing to do before starting a treatment is to obtain a correct diagnosis through a specialized medical evaluation. Only then can determine the cause of hair loss and set up a proposal for appropriate treatment in each case.
